Managing A Successful International Admissions Office

This book was filled with a lot of wishful thinking. Many of the things it recommends would be amazing to implement at most schools except for two key issues. First, trying to get buy in to change process at any school can be a nightmare because of all the people who have to sign off on the changes and getting buy in unless you have a VP title or higher doesn’t happen. Second, changes/programs/staffing takes money that most schools don’t have a lot of. At most of the schools I know of they have one to three people that handle the onboarding of new international students. Most of the time the international process is also just additional duties that they do at the school and does not match their main position. Personally I feel that that schools need at least one person fully dedicated to international students with no other duties. Once again wishful thinking. The ideas in the book would be great if schools could actually use them. I’ll keep this book in mind if I ever become a VP or higher at a school, but until then I feel like I need to log this in my fantasy book section. 3 stars out of 5 because it is filled with good ideas, but ones that are not realistic under current education models/funding.

The book was edited by David L. Di Maria in 2017.
