2/6/24: "Assessing Quality of Microcredentials Is Difficult"- I know that schools have been talking about this concept for years but it has not really taken off. The first major issue with this is how to get academic backing and make sure that the credentials are actually accredited with real academic backing. Second, getting the buy in of industries to actually recognize these types of credentials. Third, trying to see if these can be made stackable to actually equal a college course so that students have a way to expand them into more traditional learning. And the list goes on. As a higher education expert I do not like microcredentials/badging since there are so many issues with them. https://www.insidehighered.com/news/tech-innovation/teaching-learning/2024/02/06/assessing-quality-microcredentials-difficult?utm_source=Inside+Higher+Ed&utm_campaign=d3fbe1bbce-DNU_2021_COPY_02&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_1fcbc04421-d3fbe1bbce-237144525&mc_cid=d3fbe1bbce&mc_eid=ba665d78a3# "The Census Bureau is dropping a controversial proposal to change disability statistics"- https://www.npr.org/2024/02/06/1229547255/census-bureau-survey-disabled-people-with-disabilities

They do not prepare them for the full university experience. There is way too much hand holding and they do not teach the student to adult. They give students unrealistic extensions and exceptions that they will not get at a four year institution or in the real world. Community colleges need to change to actually help train students on how to be successful instead of being the parent wiping the food from their face. I wish that there was more done to help train students on how to be successful at both school and life. Now many community colleges are killing their first year success courses and orientations that can at least help to build some of the expectations that are between the student and the school. https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2024/02/13/community-college-transfer-pathway-doesnt-work-for-everyone.html
